Join me and a certified guide for a rare photography session in the abandoned immigrant hospital of Ellis Island.
Now in ruins, the Ellis Ilsand Immigrant Hospital was the largest and most modern medical facility in the United States when it opened in 1902.
It was also the last stop in a long journey before immigrants entered the United States and a chance to pursue their version of the American Dream.
In the workshop, each student will work on creating a personal, visual story on the themes of immigration and memory.
Teaching will focus on storytelling as well as shooting techniques specific to the place such as framing, exposing for the highlights versus exposing for the shadows, and making great images of textures.
Note that tripods and flash are not permitted and wearing hard hats is mandatory.
This workshop is part of a larger project on the theme of immigration today. More information will be given during the tour.
The program for Fall workshops will be announced in July 2017!
